Thursday Thirteen #3

Thirteen Things I Want My Sons to Know

1. If you can’t afford children, keep your pants zipped.
2. Condoms are also a good investment in your future (but really, keep those pants zipped)
3. Don’t be in such a hurry to grow up. Paying bills sucks and there’s no Summer Vacation in the real world.
4. Always treat a woman like a lady, hold the door for her, compliment her and smile. Girls like that.
5. Brush your teeth–you only get one set and all that dental work I’m paying for ain’t cheap.
6. Always take responsibility for your actions, including getting someone pregnant….which leads to #7
7. There’s more to being a father than paying your child support and seeing your kids every two weeks.
8. Body odor is NOT cool.
9. I love you and think you’re wonderful, but the rest of the world doesn’t. Get over it.
10. I love you and think you’re wonderful, but I won’t put up with rampant stupidity and half-assedness. Get over it.
11. You WILL work your ass off for everything you get, and again, there’s no summer vacations in the real world. Yup, Get over it.
12. I did not raise freeloaders. Don’t be one. Yes, #1 I’m talking to you.
13. One day you’ll discover just how smart I really am 🙂

  1. Anne LOL I guess my bonus #14 should be: Don’t plan on mooching of Mom for forever–it’s not going to happen. There IS a job in your future.

  2. Thanks Angela!

The Gal…I’m even teaching them to cook and wash clothes :kisses:

Amy maybe I should just make big posters for all of us! 😆

Kayla I actually went home one day and told the boys, “We need to talk.” #1 says “Is this THE talk?” I said, “No but if you insist, here you go–if you can’t afford children, don’t have sex. How was that?” He laughed and said, “That was pretty good.” 😳

NOw lets just hope it sticks

  3. I hope you get all that through to them. My son tried out being a freeloader for awhile; the Army took that out of him. Oh, and alas, he had a girl pregnant before he was 18. The only real good that came of it was it gave me a wonderful first grandbaby.

  4. LOL, about the body odor! Here I thought it was a recent fad, not to bathe. I’ve had more students smelling this year, than the last ten years put together. I can’t figure out why!

  5. LOL Spy I have to say the oldest showers 2x a day–I kid you NOT. It’s my youngest who needs the *cough* gentle reminders.

  6. I love it Amie. 🙂
I’ll keep this for my son; but, you know, I plan to tweak this a bit and give it to my DAUGHTER! :wth:

  7. You are so funny, Amie. This list cracked me up. So, tell me, do your boys think you’re as funny as we do??

Gosh, I totally forgot about Thirteen Thurday! I’m making a note to participate next week.

  8. Ditto!

    9. I love you and think you’re wonderful, but the rest of the world doesn’t. Get over it.

    10. I love you and think you’re wonderful, but I won’t put up with rampant stupidity and half-assedness. Get over it.

    Oh Hell Yeah! 🙂

  9. Spy I couldn’t get it to work but i did get some directions on the plug in for WordPress so hopefully next week I can get it figured out for good!

Rachelle of course they do! And I think they’re pretty funny too–when they’re not beating the dogsnot out of each other.

Scooper….Bernard….I had a friend, a mom of a teenaged boy going off to college share that with me years ago, and I filed it away. It’s so true. And I think we do our children a disservice when we raise them to think the whole world should adore them.
