Blows Off the Dust

Post navigation

Wow…..I forgot to blog for like, a real long while! I haven’t even done my AI recaps–frankly I’m so bored with AI I can’t be arsed to! What are you thinking about this season so far? And has anyone checked out Castle (with Nathan Fillion?)? Thoughts?

I’m over at SFC today blogging writerly things! But I wanted to mention an interesting conversation I had with a friend last week.

She mentioned she’d checked out the excerpt of a historical romance author getting a lot of buzz on her latest week and found herself LESS than unimpressed.

My first thought, and comment, was, “Of course you’re harder to please. She’s writing in your genre so you’re automatically pre-programmed to be hyper-critical of her writing.”

Duh……. *shrugs*

I’m SURE I’d do the same thing. I am a picky reader, and I’m turning into a picky movie/tv watcher, but I almost exlusively read OUTSIDE Of my genre. I’m SURE I’m missing out on some good reads but I just can’t do it, and this is probably why.

/end lightbulb moment

On that note here’s a book reading update:

I finished my last three Rita books.

I read CJ Lyons Warning Signs

I started The Power of Less

And I started Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain

I also started The Queen of Babbel but I just couldn’t get into it. I haven’t really been in a comedy mood lately.

Of course, I don’t even like SitCOms LOL

So what’s new with you…….what are you reading?

  1. I’m not sure if I read almost exclusively outside my genre because of that, or because it’s too much like work. *g*

What I’m reading: Long Hard Ride, Alison Kent, and Dogs and Goddesses, Crusie/Rich/Stuart.

  2. I think BECAUSE we’re hypercritical it’s more harder (LOL) to turn off that internal editor and thus, more like work!!!!!

Let me know about Dogs and Goddesses….I’ve been eyeing it!

  3. I like Castle a lot. Nathan Fillion makes the show, IMO.

I think writers are more critical than readers, don’t you? We spend so much time critiquing and questioning our own writing as well as that of our friends, I don’t think we can help it.

I have CJ’s book and Dogs and Goddesses. If I could only turn off the TV…..

  4. I didn’t know Nathan had a new show! Damn!

Anywayyy…just finished a para romance, & I won’t get into names ‘coz I don’t do reviews. It was a fairly big seller a coupla years ago & the author’s now a big name & I just got to it.
I was surprised by how much it DIDN’T work for me on a paranormal OR romance level. Not sure why…but it did seem like the work didn’t fluctuate much in intensity or emotion, it was pretty much an even keel.
But I may have been writing too much violence lately, lol. 🙂

  5. Love Nathan Fillion in anything, and Castle is an auto TiVO for me.

    Books:

Just finished Lessons in Seduction by Melissa Schroeder and 3 Brides For 3 Bad Boys (pprbk) by Lucy Monroe.

Next up on my TBR pile are
Nailed by…um… who was that author?
and Visions in Death by JD Robb (I’m woefully behind on this series, but that’s okay. I’ll always have books in the lineup to read. {g})
